“If they are there, we need to keep them in the field," Beth said. She pulled out her phone. "I'll call Sam, let him know where we are and that we might need some help. Rats."

“What is it?” Rachel asked.

“I don’t have a signal,” she said, stuffing the phone back into her pocket.

"We'll manage," Clodagh said. "We don't even know they're there yet."

They walked along the hedge together silently, each one hoping and praying that soon enough they'd see the horses. The field raised just a little before the dip and Clodagh felt Ozzie shift under her, pushing himself over the almost imperceptible bank. Then, just over the top of the grass, they saw the top of a horse’s rump, a bay horse’s rump. All three looked at each other in relief.
